Organization

The research staff of the CIBEK will be made up of doctors from the Hospital Clínic, professors from the Faculty of Medicine, researchers from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and researchers from the IDIBAPS itself (hired through specific and researchers’ returns programs such as the Ramón y Cajal or the ICREA).

Work with us

There will be an internal announcement for selection amongst the researchers of the IDIBAPS and, later, an external and international announcement for the selection of researchers for the CIBEK. The Hospital Clínic and the IDIBAPS confer the CIBEK a special status within their research structure, appointing a management board specifically for the center.

Features and location

The CIBEK building, currently still under construction, will become a new icon in the biomedical community in Barcelona. Its facade will convey modernity and vitality. Its inner structure will enable a constant adaptation to the changing priorities of biomedical research. The distribution of laboratories will be open plan to ease the communication between groups. The center will be connected to the Hospital Clínic through a subterranean passage under Villarroel street. The research structures of the IDIBAPS (Faculty of Medicine, Hospital Clínica and CIBEK) will thus be physically in touch.

The center will be built in a plot of 3.000 square meters located in Roselló street (between Urgell and Villarroel streets). It will have 41 meters of facade and a building depth of 25 meters. The 2.000 square meters not occupied by the building will be transferred to the Ajuntament de Barcelona for its public use and will accommodate an urban park. The building will have a ground floor, a mezzanine and five floors for a total surface of 6.500 square meters. It will also have an underground floor of 2.560 square meters, plus two basement floors also with 2.560 square meters each.

Distribution of spaces

The ground floor and the mezzanine will accommodate common spaces (cafeteria, lecture hall, security, concierge’s office, reception, management of CIBEK, IDIBAPS and Fundació Clínic, administrative support structures for the researchers, visitor’s reception, cloakroom, seminar rooms…). The undergound floor and the five floors will house research laboratories, laboratories for technological innovation and research support platforms (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, cytometrics, cryopreservation). The basement floors 1 and 2 will accommodate a storage area and a car park.
