CIBEK

The prestige of the IDIBAPS and the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is the basis upon which the future of the new center will be built. The main working lines already in place within the IDIBAPS will be strengthened through the laboratories and the lastest generation equipment included in the new building. Here, promising new researchers will find a place to develop all their potential.

CIBEK's mission

CIBEK's mission is to improve the condition of the sick by gaining new knowledge about the origin, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Its associated staff efforts will be aimed towards spreading the benefits derived from advanced medical research.

CIBEK's objectives

Research

CIBEK intends to be an efficient, competitive and modern center for advanced medical research, combining concepts derived from the basic research with those obtained through the clinical observation of the patients. Its closeness to the Hospital Clínic, with which it will be physically connected, makes it a particularly suitable institution for translational research.

A new leader in innovation and development

CIBEK, with its modern design of spaces, is called to become a center of attraction for the best international researchers. This center intends to collaborate closely with companies related to medical research, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Therefore, it will take part not only in the creation of knowledge, but also in the design of new technologies.

Area of extension of scientific knowledge and discussion of research projects

It consists of a hall with capacity of 100 people and two meeting rooms with a capacity for up to 20 people. All of them will be equipped with the latest computer and imaging technology.

These spaces aim to facilitate the dissemination of scientific knowledge generated by the research groups at CIBEK among researchers within the Hospital Clinic and the Faculty of Medicine of the UB (IDIBAPS, CRESIB, Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute, among others). They also provide the infrastructure on which research protocols of different groups in the center will be discussed.

Connection with the environment

CIBEK will promote the contact with the city, and so, it transferred the inner courtyard to the Ajuntament de Barcelona to be used as an urban park. This landscaped area will cover more than 2.000 square meters and will be located at the back of the new building. In addition, the big lecture hall for 100 people will enable CIBEK to host big scientific and informative events. CIBEK will thus become a source of scientific culture and interaction with the citizens, promoting all kinds of informative initiatives in the new premises.
